BACKGROUND AND ACTIVITIES OF NSA

Stutters in Nepal are at scattered situation. Stuttering problem is not seen as a handicap in context of Nepal. People are not aware that stuttering is a communication handicap. There was not any organization to look into the problems of stutters and organize them. People who were aware about rehabilitation of the stuttering they consult the speech therapist for fluent speech. Therefore, a concept of establishing the stutters association was felt, after persuasion of DSI/DLFL to organize the workshop in 10 April 2003. To conduct the workshop in 10 April, 2003, the DSI/DLFL officers were in Nepal had consultation with some senior speech pathologist who had the list of people with stuttering problem, who had been to their clinics for counseling and therapy. People who were living in and around the valley were contacted and invited for the meeting at Nepal Laryngectomees Association (NLA) and discussed about having workshop funded by DSI/DLFL, if they were interested. The group became very enthusiastic. A workshop preparation and organizing committee was formed with stutters group. The workshop was held in the presence of Chief Guest Mr. Hermann Christmann from Denmark.
